Descripción: Under the general direction of the Dean, Valencia Campus, and in functional reporting with the Director of Library Services, Berklee, the Librarian is responsible for providing professional library services that include reference, cataloging, collection development, and bibliographic instruction.
Funciones: Provides reference services for students, faculty and staff; assisting in small informational searches as well as major research projects. Provides interlibrary loan and document delivery services for students and faculty to expand the effectiveness of the library collection. Performs cataloging and classification of monographs, scores and audio/visual material for the library, media center and designated satellite/departmental collections. Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates student employees and support staff, as appropriate, in basic library tasks such as checking in and out materials and shelf maintenance. Is solely responsible for the operation of the library in Valencia. Provides individual and class-based training for faculty and students on effective use of library system, online databases and periodical indexes. Participates in ongoing information literacy workshops and presentations. Is responsible for—with faculty, program director and dean, participation— the development and maintenance of collection materials within designated subject areas. Works directly with faculty, program directors and deans, in identifying and processing class reserve materials, and the development of class/subject reading and listening lists. Participates in the development of Learning Resources goals and objectives.
Requisitos: Masters in Library Science preferred. Strong interpersonal skills. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks. Experience with both copy and original cataloging on an automated library system. Knowledge and understanding of computers, information databases, indexes and systems. Demonstrated experience in a supervisory capacity. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience with word processing, spreadsheet and database applications. Experience with all types of academic research resources. Demonstrated knowledge of all operations in an academic library. Fluent English skills.

Más de 200 instrumentos de todo el mundo, en una exposición en la Biblioteca de Cúllar

La Biblioteca Pública Municipal de Cúllar (Granada) acoge, hasta el próximo 3 de agosto, la exposición Instrumentos del mundo mundano, realizada por el músico granadino Manuel Mateo. En ella se muestra una insólita colección de casi 200 instrumentos musicales de todas las latitudes del planeta. El afán coleccionista de Mateo posibilita esta variada muestra, donde se pueden recorrer los cinco continentes y sus respectivos modos culturales, cristalizados en las diferentes manifestaciones musicales que surgen a través del uso particular de cada instrumento.

La exposición se muestra por criterio geográfico, dividida en diversos apartados vinculados a los orígenes territoriales de cada uno de los instrumentos: África subsahariana, Magreb-Oriente, Asia-Oceanía, América y Europa, con mención especial a los instrumentos de la Península Ibérica y en concreto a los instrumentos andaluces.

Se puede así comprobar la cercanía de algunos de los instrumentos que las diversas culturas presentes en la península a través de los siglos nos han dejado -por ejemplo el oúd árabe que equivale al laúd español- y la exótica evocación de instrumentos como el sitar, la marímbula o la balalaika.

El pasado 23 de julio, Manuel Mateo, coleccionista y organizador de la muestra, realizó una visita guiada en la que los numerosos asistentes pudieron ver y escuchar de primera mano muchos de los instrumentos allí expuestos. Manuel Mateo, músico que ha dedicado su trabajo a difundir la música de tradición oral en grupos como Lombarda, Supervivientes o Atroj, realizó un recorrido musical por la exposición e hizo las delicias de los niños y niñas que la visitaron, muchos de ellos pertenecientes a la Escuela de Música de Cúllar. Tras Cúllar, la muestra se exhibirá en Polopos-La Mamola.

Job Description

Under the general Supervision of the Director of Library Services, the Archivist is responsible for the organization of the current college archives into a user-orientated facility. Working with the Learning Resources leadership, the Archivist is responsible for the integrity, the development of goals and objectives for and the implementation of procedures for the collection and growth of the college archives. Additionally, the Archivist is responsible for acquiring and maintaining archives relevant to the college’s mission from outside the college community.

This is a grant funded position by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission.

Required Skills
  • Works independently to organize the present college archive to ensure its effectiveness as a primary-source information center.
  • In collaboration with the Library administration, define the parameters and guidelines for acquiring significant materials from the college as they relate to the academic history of the college and collect within these guidelines.
  • Working the Library administration, define the parameters and guidelines for acquiring materials from outside the college that relate to the music studied at Berklee and collect within these guidelines.
  • Develop finding aids for the archival collections; local databases, web-based formats and MARC records may be employed.
  • Creates digital master files of historical sound, video, and other recordings housed in the Berklee Archives using professional archival guidelines and techniques employed in the preservation of this type of media.
  • Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates student employees in basic archival tasks.
  • Provide reference services to the greater college community; establish policies concerning access to archival materials.
  • Determine fiscal requirements and prepare budgetary recommendations to the Library administration.
  • Participates in the development of Learning Resources goals and objectives.
  • Other duties as required.

Required Experience

  • Masters in Information Science or related degree from an accredited institution.
  • Formal coursework or training in archival management and theory.
  • Formal archival education and/or demonstrated knowledge of archival audio preservation or formal education in sound engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience in an academic archive facility.
  • Undergraduate degree or relevant musical background is preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of information databases, indexes and multimedia web-based delivery systems as they relate to archival management.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a complex, changing environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Logo conservatorio virtualDesde su creación en 2002, la actividad académica del Conservatorio Virtual se centra en el desarrollo y oferta de cursos y talleres on line, dedicados a impartir y estimular el conocimiento de la música. A partir de 2006, establece un convenio con el Instituto para la Formación, Investigación y Desarrollo de la Música y otras Artes (IFIDMA), el cual se encarga de la organización académica.
