The Mary Couts Burnett Library at Texas Christian University seeks a Catalog Librarian for Music and Media materials.

  • Catalogs music resources (including scores and sound recordings), video recordings (primarily DVD’s), books, and other formats as assigned.
  • The cataloging process will include searching for and selecting appropriate records from OCLC in order to verify, update, correct and/or complete descriptive and subject cataloging; reviewing, checking and correcting metadata; reviewing and selecting appropriate subject headings; assigning classification numbers. Original records will be created and entered into OCLC when necessary.
  • Additional cataloging functions include performing MARC tagging in conformity with local and national requirements and standards; evaluating choice and form of access points; performing authority work as needed for names, uniform titles, and series.
  • Works with supervisor and colleagues to resolve workflow issues, prioritizing assigned tasks based on departmental needs.
  • Contributes to library internal communication by serving on committees, task forces, and teams as assigned.

The University of Michigan Music Library supports the teaching and research interests of the School of Music, Theatre and Dance, interdisciplinary collaborations within the larger University of Michigan community, and general service to the public. Among the busiest libraries in the University Library system, the Music Library holds more than 240,000 items, including scores, audio recordings, videos, and numerous special collections. The School of Music, Theatre and Dance, one of the oldest and largest in the country, has approximately 150 faculty and over 1,000 students from all 50 states and almost two dozen countries. The school offers an array of programs – undergraduate through doctoral – in nearly all fields of music, dance, and theatre. This is a half-time position.
Under the general supervision of the Head of the Music Library, the Music Librarian is responsible for providing professional library services including reference, instruction, collection development, maintenance and development of the library’s website, and serving as a liaison to selected faculty departments and programs. May provide assistance in Theatre, Dance, or a number of specialized music areas.
Duties include:

Duties and Responsibilities

Musictecaris, blog del colectivo AMPLI

Logo AMPLIDesde el año 2008 se puede encontrar valiosa información de las bibliotecas musicales -y de secciones musicales de bibliotecas públicas- catalanas, a través del blog http://musictecaris.blogspot.com/ (en catalán) gestionado por el colectivo AMPLI, que lo conforman bibiliotecarios musicales de Cataluña o «musictecarios» (Persona encargada  de la selección, tratamiento, organización y difusión de la colección de música en la biblioteca pública), término que ellos mismos acuñaron y definieron.

En el balance que hacían al cabo de un año de actividad, esto es, en abril de 2009, ofrecían estas reflexiones sobre sus propósitos y objetivos:

Los propósitos de AMPLI

El blog nacía con la voluntad de ser un espacio de coopeeración de los bibliotecarios muiscales, principalmente de la red, pero también abierto a otros límites geográficos, institucionales o profesionales. este grupo de musictecarios se había formado con dos objetivos claros:

Objectivo 1. Crear un espacio web para compartir recursos relacionados con la música y las bibliotecas

La idea era disponer de un espacio cooperativo donde compartir:

· Selección y difusión de Música –digital-libre- de nuestros músicos
· Discografias selectivas sobre temas/épocas/artistas/corrientes
· Recomendaciones de novedadess discogràficass, de webs, blogs, myspaces de artistes locales -o no- y vídeos
· Articulos sobre música y biblioteca (originales o traducciones)
· Encuestas y entrevistas a los compañeros para recoger iniciativas, críticas, propuestas…
· Contenidos más específicos y/o personales sobre la vida profesional musictecária (reflexiones profesionales y/o melómanas)
· Blogs de bibliotecas y/o de compañeros musictecarios, reunidos con enlaces
· Flujos RSS de notícias sobre música y actualidat musical en las bibliotecas
· Propuestas de audiciones musicales semanales o mensucales: playlists, audiciones comentadas
· Convocatòries per trobades o debats de bibliotecaris musicals, actes de les trobades
· Organización o difusión de conferencias, cursos
· Recomendaciones y reseñas de conciertos y/o actos musicales

Objectivo 2.Trabajar para la proyección de las áreas musicales de las bibliotecas públicas y de la figura del musictecario.


En definitiva: cantidad de información actualizada, noticias, recursos, enlaces, reflexiones sobre la profesión bibliotecaria… que merece la pena visitar.
